What has improved with SMILE Pro and VISUMAX 800?
SMILE LASIK has become the most popular vision correction procedure worldwide, with over 8 million surgeries globally and more than 1.3 million in Korea. This is due to its shorter recovery time and high safety compared to LASIK and LASEK.
These achievements were made possible by the third-generation vision correction method introduced by SMILE LASIK, along with reliable surgical equipment performance. VisuMax is the only device capable of performing SMILE LASIK and has proven its vision correction effectiveness and safety over 15 years since its launch in 2008, through extensive clinical trials and research. VisuMax, from ZEISS, incorporates 240 patented technologies, including the Nobel Prize-winning femtosecond laser, and has been approved by the U.S. FDA. Recently, the VisuMax 800 was introduced, offering a faster and smoother SMILE procedure and attracting significant attention.
The VisuMax 800 features upgraded femtosecond laser technology and enhanced surgical stability, allowing for a faster, smoother SMILE surgery compared to the previous VisuMax 500. Notably, the improved femtosecond laser reduces the laser exposure time by more than threefold, bringing it down to under 10 seconds.
This advancement significantly shortens the surgery time, increasing the procedure's safety and reducing patient fatigue. Let’s take a closer look at this aspect.
The laser exposure time of the previous VisuMax 500 was under 25 seconds, already the shortest among current third-generation (lenticule extraction) vision correction equipment.
With VisuMax 800, the laser exposure time is reduced to under 10 seconds, minimizing corneal damage and creating a smoother lenticule, leading to potentially better surgical outcomes.
The reduction in laser exposure time also helps improve patient cooperation. "Cooperation" refers to the ability to control the movements of muscles, nerves, and motor organs in a synchronized manner. With shorter laser exposure time, patients undergoing surgery can focus on the laser stably for a brief period.
This reduction in time helps alleviate patient anxiety and significantly decreases the likelihood of suction loss. Every VisuMax device is equipped with ZEISS’s high-performance laser scanning system, incorporating in-house developed semiconductor technology, which offers exceptional precision.
Additionally, the VisuMax 800 includes advanced features such as OcuLign® for astigmatism axis correction and CentraLign® for precise alignment of the eye's center, allowing accurate tracking of eye movements.
These functions are designed to minimize errors during surgery, enhancing stability. SMILE Pro, after successfully undergoing over 60,000 clinical cases worldwide to verify its safety, was introduced in Korea and has rapidly gained popularity.
We look forward to sharing more in-depth insights on vision correction surgery.
Thank you!
