SMILE LASIK is a next-generation laser vision correction procedure that corrects refractive errors using the VisuMax laser developed by Zeiss.

SMILE LASIK procedure involves a femtosecond laser operating at a speed of one-trillionth of a second to pass through the corneal surface and correct the refractive error in the corneal stroma. The separated corneal stroma is then extracted through a small incision.

The absence of a corneal flap formation or epithelial removal during the surgery results in minimal pain and quick recovery, making it the most popular vision correction method today. For this reason, new surgical equipment using the lenticular extraction method like SMILE LASIK is emerging.

Although the surgical principles and methods are the same as before, SMILE LASIK is only possible with the VisuMax developed by Zeiss in 2008. Zeiss holds 240 patents related to SMILE LASIK and its proprietary trademarks.

Zeiss' SMILE LASIK has conducted over 7 million surgeries worldwide, maintaining the number ONE  in vision correction. In Korea, it achieved 1 million cases in 2022, demonstrating its effectiveness and safety.

Based on numerous clinical cases, the SMILE LASIK equipment VisuMax has received approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The FDA, a globally respected institution, strictly approves and manages the efficacy and safety of food, pharmaceuticals, and other products produced, distributed, and sold in the U.S.

This result is due to 15 years of continuous technical research and stable surgical cases by Zeiss and medical professionals since 2008. VisuMax is the only lenticular extraction vision correction equipment to receive FDA certification.
